Can My Vertigo Be Helped By Chiropractic?

arms-crossed-in-front-of-face-sqVertigo and dizziness are often used interchangeably, but their symptoms are not identical. You may have experienced dizziness on purpose as a child, spinning in circles until you lose your balance and fall down. Vertigo is a type of dizziness that causes you to feel like either you or your surroundings are moving, tilting or whirling. Many sufferers describe it as feeling like they are at sea, even when they are completely motionless.

Walking, driving and doing your job can be difficult or impossible, depending on the severity of your symptoms—and finding relief can be equally difficult.

Causes of Vertigo

Our ears do much more than just let us hear what’s going on around us. The inner ears are complicated systems that help control our sense of balance and equilibrium. When something goes wrong here, the result can be symptoms such as vertigo.

But what causes problems in the inner ears? Many things, unfortunately. Head injuries, Meniere’s disease, certain medications, and some cancers are just a few of the causes. One of the most common causes of vertigo is sinus pressure caused by underlying sinus infections.

How Does Chiropractic Help?

At BodyWise Chiropractic, Dr Daniel Bank (chiropractor) has nearly 25 years’ experience helping patients with vertigo through our holistic approach to care. Restoring proper alignment and movement to the joints of the neck, jaw and cranium (skull) with gentle chiropractic adjustments may relieve nerve interference in the ears, allowing the inner ears to restore equilibrium.

When sinus pressure is identified as a cause of your symptoms, we may also employ gentle lymphatic drainage techniques to reduce the swelling and pressure from the sinus passages, which in turn relieves pressure in the inner ears that can be contributing to your symptoms.
